Poison Of English – Why All Japanese Think They Need To Speak English

Japanese novelist Makoto Oda wrote in his book…

Returning to the question of “English invasion” and “English rule” in Britain in India, I think that the basis of modern foreign language education really was established there.

[…]Briefly, English education in Japanese schools is “colonial education”. The first of the characteristics of “colonial education” is that the teaching side dominates overwhelmingly the side to be taught.

[…]The former is a human being and the latter is something other than a human being. The former tells the latter the precious treasure that was permitted to be held only by humans. The latter just mimics the teacher and master it. Treasure is, as it was, a passport to human society.

Only after acquiring the passport, they can get in to the human society of British people and become human beings. Of course, in such a way that he became a human being, he is a human being as a “second-class citizen” to the last, yet it is a human being anyhow. He’s not a monkey.

I think that the Indian society has improved better than decades ago, because Indian intellectuals have become poor at English compared to the past.[…]To one of my Bengalese friend I halfway joked halfway serious.

“India has improved a lot, because everyone’s English has become poor”.

He nodded with a big laugh.

Just like this, English education has aspects of voluntary colonization.

English has convenience and at the same time danger. It is because now that the English language education in Japan is changing rapidly, they must realize that again.

Thank you for readying.
